Space themed album artwork

This is the album artwork for a personal piece of work I am doing called ‘lost Galaxies’

Aside from designing, my other hobby is music production. This release is a mix of hip hop and trip hop beats, with a space theme.

The tracks are meant to reflect a journey into space from take off to landing, hence the track names which suggest the imagery or feelings of what is happening at that point on the journey. Nothing is for certain, and it open to the listener to decide the elements of the journey.

To reflect the above idea, I felt I needed artwork and content to matchup. I designed the background to be abstract space imagery, and with the logo, I tried to give a sort of soviet-era space program feel.

The project will be available for download soon.

The geometric shape experiments, were orginally created in AutoCAD, imported into illustrator, then manipulated in Photoshop. I have used AutoCAD for many years, for Architectual and engineering drawing for construction, yet it has only occured to me to use it in a design manor. More of a technical than a design program, its has advantages for being to the millimeter accuracy, angular shapes, arrays, symetry…the list goes on. With the handy feature of Illustrator CS5 (and probably some previous versions) being able to open .dwg files and render the data as vector is big benefit for anyone familiar with AutoCAD

These pieces are pretty much experimental, freeform, possibly some ideas from other work seen on the net just to see if it works. For me any technical geometric shapes required in the future will be speed up by composing them in AutoCAD and importing to Illustrator.

Recently I have started using css3 for styling on this site, here is a brief overview and some helpful tools.

Recently I have started using css3 for styling on this site. I have recreated a glass background css style found on this page. Another great tool that has helped me achieve cross browser compatability has been the site css3please. A helpful tool that generates the relavant code for modern brosers.

I plan to use css3 on all sites from now on, due to the awesome ability to generate graphics by code over using images.

Recently I have created a new way of sharing and streaming music for any artists that use an online streaming service. I specifically aimed my idea towards soundcloud due to the excellent services it provides and the great embeddable player available on the free accounts.

With the death of the horrid Myspace, despite music being the only decent feature left on there, web 2.0 platforms for amatuer musicians have never been better. Soundcloud, bandcamp, last.fm etc are all excellent resources with free basic accounts.

The template I have made is for musicans to embed a track list, or preferably a album playlist of uploaded songs, Nivo image slider to showcase album art and artist pictures, options for downloads and/or a paypal link for CD sales, and built in sharing options for viral promotion.

Now any artist can buy a domain, minimal (or free) hosting, upload their tracks to Soundcloud, and they have a professional website that will promote itself and give a much more professional image than a link to a Mypsace music page or similar.

Demo is here

The potential for optimisation now including images, maps, businesses, locations and much more now the make the searh engine optimisation job alot more interesting. Its nice seeing some work popping up thats never been optimised but has just been made popular through blogging.
